Dr. Courtney Anders, veterinarian, practice ownerI was born in Annapolis, Maryland, and I received my undergraduate degree from Towson University with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry. I then obtained my DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, VA.
Immediately following graduation, I moved to Portland, OR, which I believe is one of the greatest cities in the world for its love of animals, people, art, and the environment. Before opening Pearl Animal Hospital, I worked as a veterinarian at Raleigh Hills Animal Hospital, where I developed a special interest in preventative medicine, client education, and veterinary dentistry.
My natural compassion and respect for animals is why I chose to become a veterinarian. Pearl Animal Hospital exists so that we may practice and promote excellence in veterinary medicine and so that we may serve those who are committed to the very best health care for their companion animals.
I currently live in SW Portland with my loving husband Nate, our wonderful twins Oliver and Scarlett, and our two affectionate and mischievous miniature dachshunds Sophie and Stella.
Dr. Alison Lord, veterinarian, practice associateI grew up in New York and earned my BA in Biology from Vassar College and my DVM from Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine.
I moved to Portland just after graduation, and I feel more pride and fall more in love with in this city all the time. I have worked in a variety of excellent veterinary clinics in the Portland metro area, including a cat-only specialty practice. I have been fortunate to be able to nurture my special interest in feline medicine as the vice president, and as a regular volunteer, for the non-profit Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon. I am so thankful to have found Pearl Animal Hospital as a phenomenal second home in which to thrive personally and professionally.
I became a veterinarian because of my love for animals, people, and science. I'm most rewarded by opportunities to continually further my knowledge and to take on new challenges. I believe that teamwork and communication with clients can help provide the highest quality veterinary care for my patients.
I currently live in a North Portland bungalow with two domestic shorthairs named Baby Walker and Thomas, a Labradoodle named Cassie, a French Bulldog named Harry, and a Pacific Parrotlet named Hope.
Brittany, client care coordinatorI was born and raised in Portland, OR and plan to spend the rest of my life helping pets and their people in this awesome city. My passion for animals began at a very young age as I often brought home stray pets and the occasional baby bird. My first job was at a dog wash in Southeast Portland, and from there I went on to work at a holistic pet food and supply store. My career in veterinary medicine began in the summer of 2011, and I joined the Pearl Animal Hospital team in early 2012. My recent work experiences have validated my excitement and passion for veterinary medicine, and I am thrilled to be at a hospital that shares my devotion to animal wellness. I am an aspiring technician, and look forward to a rewarding career ahead. I currently reside right outside of Portland with my boyfriend Chris and my princess of a cat, Daphne.
Cheryl, client care coordinatorI have been with Pearl Animal Hospital since 2009, and I previously worked in the human healthcare field. I feel very at home here because I have always had a strong compassion for animals and felt compelled to make a difference in as many of their lives as possible. I have had lots of dogs and cats in my life as things never seemed complete without them. I love working in the pet-friendly Northwest Portland neighborhood and enjoy participating in the local pet events. I am a strong advocate for animals and believe in providing them with the best care possible, which is why I trust so strongly in the doctors and staff here at Pearl Animal Hospital. I have a special interest in adopted animals and their ability to overcome difficult circumstances as well as in helping make our local neighborhoods more accommodating to pets. My husband Chad and I have two rescue dogs, Sam (a boxer / lab mix) and Kayce (a shepherd mix). They are both so full of life, love and curiosity. We couldn't imagine our lives without them.
Clare, veterinary technicianLike many, my love of animals sparked at a young age. I grew up caring for a variety of critters, from hamsters to birds to dogs. After high school I took a year to intern at The National Zoo & Aquarium in Australia, where I loved working with the public as well as with the animals. A study abroad opportunity in college took me to South Africa, where I spent a summer caring for orphaned monkeys at The Vervet Monkey Foundation. In 2007 I graduated from James Madison University in Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in biology. I worked in biomedical research before transitioning into the veterinary field at Pearl Animal Hospital.
I’m thrilled to be part of such an enthusiastic team that delivers exceptional veterinary care. The best part of my day is witnessing the joy that our patients bring to their families’ lives.
Emily, veterinary assistant/technicianI was born in Santa Barbara, California and grew up north of there in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley. My love for animals goes back to my childhood. As a little girl, I was always bringing home strays and wildlife, as well as being my neighborhood’s personal dog walker! At the age of 16, I began working at a pet hospital as a kennel technician. After graduating high school, I began training as a veterinary assistant where I helped care for everything from cats and dogs to reptiles and birds! In June of 2010, I packed my car and moved to Portland and shortly thereafter began working at Pearl Animal Hospital. I love working with such a great team of people who have such compassion for animals and eagerness to help and to educate clients in the health of their pets. I currently live in Southeast Portland with my two kitties, Maggie and Mehitabel. I enjoy exploring all that Portland has to offer, such as adventures in the great outdoors as well as the art, movie theaters, restaurants, and coffee shops!
Kerri, certified veterinary technicianBorn and raised outside of Philadelphia, I worked as an Art Director for over ten years before transitioning to the veterinary field. My passion for veterinary care began with the nonprofit Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon, which supports and assists a population of animals with no voice. On a parallel path, I became interested in canine physical therapy with a special interest in post-op orthopedic surgical patients and in the ever-growing geriatric population of our canine friends. There is nothing I enjoy more than seeing our aging furry friends and their owners as sincere and compassionate as on the first day they brought them home. I am so happy to have found a home at Pearl Animal Hospital, where I can grow professionally and thrive with a team whose compassion is matched by no other. I enjoy spending my free time outdoors – gardening, skiing, hiking or kayaking class III whitewater. I live in SW Portland with my husband Vince, son Liam, our two rescued dogs Bela and Canyon, and our cool cat Moo.
Matt, veterinary technicianI was born in Portland, Oregon, and have always had a passion for animals. I started the companion animal experience working from the ground up as a Kennel Assistant at an animal boarding facility. After 3 years of kennel work, I then moved into the medical side of the animal world as a Veterinary Assistant and did that for 1.5 years before becoming a Technician. I have been a Technician for the last 4.5 years and have enjoyed it immensely. Before becoming a part of Pearl Animal Hospital, I worked as a Technician for two day practices (Mt. View Veterinary Hospital and VCA 12 Mile Animal Clinic) and SE Portland Animal Hospital (a 24 hr animal emergency facility). My passion is to promote client education and preventative medicine. My wife Valerie and I currently live in Gresham with our two rambunctious Blue Heelers Nitro and Z.
Max, veterinary assistantMy two furry feline companions, Bob and Jerry, have been an immense inspiration to me throughout my life, and my love of animals of all shapes and sizes started with them. They have become the first stepping stone on a path that will hopefully lead to a long career in veterinary medicine. I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and am attending MLC, a K-12 school, in downtown Portland. After high school, I plan on majoring in pre-veterinary sciences at Western Oregon University. My job at the hospital is to ensure that everything is shiny and clean and to lend a helping hand to whomever may need it. I treat every animal I encounter with the same love and compassion I would give to my own two cats because each animal that walks through the door becomes a part of our family.
